The Flash is an American superhero television drama series developed by Greg
Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns, airing on The CW. It is based
on the Barry Allen incarnation of DC Comics character the Flash, a costumed
superhero crime-fighter with the power to move at superhuman speeds. It is a
spin-off from Arrow, existing in the same fictional universe known as
Arrowverse. The series follows Barry Allen, portrayed by Grant Gustin, a
crime scene investigator who gains super-human speed, which he uses to fight
criminals, including others who have also gained superhuman abilities
Initially envisioned as a backdoor pilot, the positive reception Gustin
received during two appearances as Barry on Arrow led to executives choosing
to develop a full pilot to make use of a larger budget and help flesh out
Barry's world in more detail. The series is primarily filmed in Vancouver,
British Columbia, Canada.
The Flash premiered in North America on October 7, 2014, where the pilot
became the second-most watched premiere in the history of The CW, after The
Vampire Diaries in 2009. It has been well received by critics and audiences,
and won the People's Choice Award for "Favorite New TV Drama" in 2014. The
series, together with Arrow, has spun characters out to their own show,
Legends of Tomorrow, which premiered on January 21, 2016. The series was
renewed for an eighth season in February 2021 and premiered on November 16,
2021. In March 2022, the series was renewed for a ninth season.

All that changes when a massive particle accelerator created by visionary
physicist Dr. Harrison Wells and his team at S.T.A.R Labs causes a
malfunction creating a freak storm, killing many people and Barry being
struck by lightning in his lab. He wakes up after a coma nine months later.
He and his new friends at S.T.A.R Labs discover that he has superhuman speed
and can run on both land and water. He can move, think and react at light
speeds. He can also vibrate so fast that he can pass through walls, travel
through time and lend or borrow speed. He heals more quickly than an average
human. Later, he learns that he is but one of the many affected by the
incident, most of them who are using their powers for evil. Determined to
make a difference, Barry dedicates his life to fighting such threats as The
Flash.

Now a speedster known as Cobalt Blue, Eddie resurrects Eobard Thawne, Hunter Zolomon / Zoom, Savitar, and August Heart / Godspeed and gathers them in the Negative Speed Force. In 2023, they fight Team Flash and Nora. Cecile adopts her future costume and codename Virtue, Allegra saves Chester from Eobard, and Jay Garrick steals Eddie's speed. Eddie retreats into the Negative Speed Force to gain more speed. Not wanting Eddie to die, Barry follows him in and convinces him not to become like Eobard and that they can create a better world by coexisting. Eddie destroys the crystal and says he is happy for Iris and Barry returns to her at the hospital. Mark reveals that Chester is a metahuman with black hole powers. The next morning, Nora is born and Harrison Wells tells Khione to ascend as the natural order's protector. She bids farewell to Team Flash and returns her body to Caitlin. At a celebration one week later, Barry apologizes to Caitlin for how they left things and Joe and Cecile get engaged. Barry unleashes a lightning bolt and chooses Avery Ho, Max Mercury, and Jess Chambers to become new speedsters.
